Volunteer Guided Research at NEPGS

Experienced volunteer staff will be available in the Library to aid patrons in getting started with self-guided research on Library computers.  All Patrons are expected to perform their own research.
If you are a NEPGS member and conducting your own research and need guidance on a specific point, we can help. Our experts cover hundreds of family history topics and can quickly steer you in the right direction. There is a time limit of 15 minutes. First come first served.

Looking for further advice and guidance to advance your research?

Whatever your genealogical needs, the experts at our library are here to help and will provide one-on-one consultations in person. Our genealogists have in-depth knowledge of NEPGS Digital and Traditional collections, and other research aids.
Consultations may be scheduled for a minimum of thirty minutes and a maximum of two hours. The rates are $30 per hour for NEPGS members and $50 per hour for others.

Please contact us at least four weeks in advance to schedule your appointment at or call 570-829-1765.

NEPGS Records Fee

NEPGS has dramatically increased the holdings in our Digital Library. A highlight of this collection is the Roman Catholic Church Records of the Scranton Diocese. We are the only source available for researchers for these valuable records which span an eleven county area. We are experiencing increased costs associated with the expansion of our Digital Library. NEPGS has implemented a Record Fee of $5.00 for each print of a record from our Digital Library. Patrons may continue to print internet-sourced records at a nominal charge of $0.25 per page.
NEPGS has many available resources which can aid in your genealogical quest. From books, newspapers, magazines, manuscripts, city records, church records, cemetery records and family histories, we have a wide range of material on various topics related to genealogy and local history. You may use the link below to browse an inventory of our Digital Collection.
Please note that you will only be able to view a snapshot of our Digital Collection. The NEPGS Catholic Church records are not available online! We invite you to NEPGS during operating hours to view the actual files.
